DICTATION
Dictation
Listen, type, and check your spelling.
Three levels from simple sentences to tricky words.
How to practise a dictation round
Choose Easy, Medium or Hard, then listen to the sentence. Use Listen again whenever you need another hearing, and adjust the Speed slider if the voice is too fast. Type your answer and press Enter to check it.
Compare the highlighted letters with the answer and read the spelling tip before choosing Next. After the tenth sentence, choose See results to review the correct sentences and your answers. Again starts another round at the same level; Pick a level returns to the level choices.
What the round score tells you
The result counts sentences that match the supplied answer. Spelling, capitalization, spaces within the sentence and punctuation matter; a sentence with a small mismatch does not earn a full correct-answer point. Review the answer text to see why it was marked differently.
This is practice with a small prepared set of sentences, not a measure of overall English ability. Browser voices and device sound can affect what you hear. If speech is unavailable, resolve the sound issue before comparing scores. Repeating a familiar set can also make the task easier.
Levels
Easy uses short simple sentences; Medium covers common mix-ups like their/there and your/you’re; Hard has commonly misspelled words like necessary, separate and accommodate. Ten sentences per level.
